WHAT IS IONM?
Intraoperative Neurophysiologic Monitoring .
What are the benefits of IONM?
Your surgeon may request Intraoperative Neurophysiologic monitoring (IONM) for your upcoming surgery. IONM has become the gold standard of patient care in spine, brain, vascular and ENT surgeries. IONM is performed by one of our Certified Clinical Neurophysiologists using sophisticated equipment to evaluate the function of the spinal cord and other nerves during surgery. Its role is to provide the surgeon with immediate feedback and warning before permanent nerve injury can occur. The NeuroMatrix® Group’s physicians monitor your nervous system in a remote, real-time mode during your surgery and, along with our clinician, interprets the results of monitoring.
What are the risks of IONM?
There are minimal risks associated with IONM. Risks may include a remote chance of infection from an electrode or a slight burn from a stimulator.
Who Pays for IONM?
The professional interpretation of the IONM is usually performed remotely by NeuroMatrix® on-staff Neurologists who have real-time access to all data during your surgery. Their professional fees will be billed to your insurance company.
The NeuroMatrix® Group Billing Policy
The NeuroMatrix® Group bills the identified third party payor (patient’s insurance) on behalf of the patient. The NeuroMatrix® Group is in network or in the process of becoming in-network providers where possible. It is our policy to accept the in-network reasonable and customary allowances that many insurance companies set, billing patients only for co-pays and/or deductibles
