Southern Neurophysiology, one of the largest and most respected Intraoperative Neurophysiology companies in the world, was founded in 1993. Through innovation, growth, and training, this unique group has had a substantial impact on the field of IONM.
In 1998, Southern Neurophysiology became the first group in the country to require that ALL CLINICIANS hold a minimum of the CNIM certification prior to performing duties in the OR. This mandate was the first step in the creation of AICN (the Atlanta Institute for Clinical Neuroscience) which is the first and only graduate level degree program in Intraoperative Neurophysiologic Monitoring.
Today Southern Neurophysiology [Southern Neuro] continues to raise the bar for practice in our field by requiring ALL CLINICAL STAFF to have CNIM certification as well as a Master’s degree and DABNM certification or be actively working toward this goal within a time frame for completion. We are the ONLY GROUP IN THE WORLD with these stringent requirements. This is a policy we unanimously adopted and we live by it.
Southern Neuro is responsible for pioneered or perfecting many of the monitoring techniques in use today including Low Voltage Motor Evoked Potentials, Sensory Nerve Mapping, Side Searching micro-electrode Recording, and Complex multi-modal analysis (8 or more modalities) with real time anatomic feedback.
A sampling of the number of cases performed by Southern Neuro clinicians:
